Yes, I bet that nice high Q woofer thrown in there makes all the difference in the world.
Nothing like a great big pair of speakers to make your day.

Actually a very low Q woofer, Cal. It works great with the right crossover. High Q is the usual choice for OB, but it's all about trade-offs.
The active 18" does wonders when it's called on, for sure.

Agreed OB's need supplemental bass and very large baffles to get any kind of bass response.. And the reason why almost all speakers come in some kind of enclosure IMHO.

I'm glad you have made a decision on which way your heading, Can't wait to watch your progress. I'm sorry if you feel as though I steered you onto a wrong path. I enjoy a much more open sound than what cabinets are capable of delivering....At least to me, Or maybe I just need it that way because I have become so deaf from cranking them beyond ear piercing and still having them be crystal clear.

Cradeldorf : do not worry about that ... You just tried to help - just like other people on this forum.
I will follow up the other thread I have on this forum when I start building the cabs

    Thanks !

Funny, as I read that Lyle Lovett was singing "Ugly, ugly, ugly".

A buddy stopped by the other day and had a listen, the first thing he said was there's no bass, I told him the sub does the bass now. After listening to them for another day I reluctantly concurred and stuffed them back into their cabs today. With the new sub and receiver It was much nicer sounding. Moral of the story, never listen to my thoughts because I'm more lost that you are. Carry on.
